How to make delicious turkey stuffing
Ingredients
- 1 cup - Butter
- 1 pound day-old white French bread, diced into ½-inch cubes and dried
- 1 extra-large (about 2-½ cups) sweet Vidalia or yellow onion, diced small
- 1-½ cups - Celery, diced small
- ⅔ cup - Italian flat-leaf parsley leaves, finely minced
- ¼ cup - Fresh sage leaves (finely minced)
- 3 tablespoons - Fresh rosemary (finely minced)
- 2 tablespoons - Fresh thyme (finely minced)
- 1 teaspoon - Salt, or as per taste
- 1 teaspoon - Pepper, or as per taste
- 2-½ cups - Low-sodium chicken broth, divided
- 2 - Large eggs
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250˚F. Place the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake them, stirring occasionally, until dried out, or around 45 minutes. Ensure to begin with very dry bread or it’ll turn mushy very quickly.
- When you’re ready to make the stuffing, transfer the bread to a large bowl. Set it aside.
- Preheat the oven to 350˚F and spray the pan/baking dish with cooking spray. Set it aside.
- Add ¾ cup (or 1-½ sticks) of butter to a large skillet, and heat on medium-high heat to melt.
- Add the celery and onions and cook until the vegetables have softened and are just turning lightly brown, or around 10 minutes. Keep stirring regularly. Transfer the vegetables to a bowl with the bread.
- Add the sage, rosemary, parsley, thyme, pepper, salt, and 1-¼ cups chicken broth, and toss well to combine. Set it aside.
- Now, add the remaining 1-¼ cups chicken broth and 2 eggs into a small bowl, and whisk well to mix. Pour this mixture over the bread and toss well to combine. Pour it out into the already-prepared baking dish.
- Chop the remaining ¼ cup (or ½ of a stick) of butter into 8-10 pieces and evenly dot the butter over the top of the stuffing.
- Cover the stuffing with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 40-45 minutes, or until the top of the stuffing is lightly golden brown, or as per your preferences.
- Serve immediately.
