Butter chicken is an Indian meal comprised of roasted marinated chicken pieces simmered in a sauce of tomatoes and spices. Its wonderful flavor and adaptability have made it quite popular. The butter chicken curry sauce is rich and silky, made with butter and cream, and cooked in a buttery gravy.

Delhi-based Moti Mahal Indian restaurant owner Kundan Lal Gujral created the original butter chicken in 1930. He loved making Tandoori Chicken meals, but the chicken always had dried-up leftover parts. Though softer than other Indian curries, Butter Chicken is just as tasty and has long been a favorite among families with young children.

Tandoori grilled chicken pieces are a part of the traditional butter chicken. To make the bone-in chicken juicy and help tenderize the meat to stay soft even after grilling, you must first soak it in thick yogurt blended with spices and herbs for an entire night.

Marination is the key to preparing flavorful butter chicken—Marinate succulent chicken pieces in curd and aromatic herbs to create a delightful butter chicken paste. Let the chicken pieces marinate in the butter chicken seasoning for at least hours to achieve the maximum taste.
